Lake County VINELink Coverage
Michigan runs a free, confidential notification service known as Michigan VINE. The Michigan VINE program page describes custody and court information available around the clock. You can reach it through VINELink or by phone at 1-800-770-7657. VINEmobile and TTY access at 1-866-847-1298 are also listed.
Coverage depends on which agency feeds the data. State materials say participating county jails can report custody changes. But none names Lake County Jail as a participant. That gap is an open question, not proof of exclusion. Pick Michigan in the live interface and see whether Lake County appears.
Alerts can cover release, transfer, escape, court events, or case-status changes. The options depend on the agency behind the record. The service is built for a specific-person status check. It is not a recent-arrests feed or a booking-photo gallery. And it is no stand-in for the court clerk.
Check a Lake County Arrest
Start at the live Michigan search. Vendor paths and county options can change without notice. Have the person's correct legal name plus other identifying facts ready. Never settle for a likely match on name alone.
- Open VINELink and select Michigan.
- Choose the person or custody search and enter the requested identifying information.
- If Lake County appears, select it and review the result’s agency, facility, status, and date.
- Compare multiple matches using all available identifiers. Do not assume two similar names refer to the same person.
- If Lake County is unavailable, the result is blank, or the status is unclear, call Lake County Corrections at (231) 745-6201.
A VINE result only repeats what the participating source last supplied. When the record itself matters, the Lake County arrest-record hub lays out the county, court, state, and federal routes.
Lake County VINELink Result Fields
Fields vary by participating source. Treat each one as a status clue, not a complete arrest file.
| Possible field | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Name or identifier | Use it to separate similar people. |
| Custody status | Read with its date and source agency. |
| Facility or agency | Shows the reporting custodian, when supplied. |
| Status date | Shows when the displayed event was recorded. |
| Notification events | Lists the alert types offered for that record. |
| Court or case event | May reflect a connected court system, not jail custody. |
A VINELink result in Lake County shows custody status and where a person is held. It does not settle the case itself. For the latest charge details, check the current court docket; for immediate custody questions, contact the jail.
The Michigan VINELink person-search screen illustrates the state and person selection route.

The capture shows the search interface without displaying or rehosting any person’s booking photograph.
Register for Michigan Custody Alerts
Registering comes after a successful record or event selection. Pick only the alert methods and events the live interface offers. Save the confirmation details so the registration can be reviewed or changed later.
- Open the matching person record and choose the notification option.
- Select the offered event, such as release, transfer, escape, or a qualifying court change.
- Choose telephone, text, or email when available and enter the requested contact information.
- For telephone registration, create the four-digit PIN described by Michigan VINE and keep it private.
- Complete the confirmation steps and follow the official instructions if an alert arrives.
One state brochure detail is worth knowing. The vendor can revise its interface, so follow the live directions. Email and text signups skip the four-digit telephone PIN process. Confidentiality means only what the state program says. It is not absolute anonymity. The VINELink registration route appears on the vendor's own registration page.

That registration link is dynamic. If it stops resolving, begin again at the VINELink home page.
Lake County VINELink Limits
VINELink is not a universal arrest index. A person can be missing for many reasons. The county may not participate. A fresh booking may not have uploaded yet. The identifying details may not match, the person may have been released, or another authority may hold them. A no-result screen cannot tell those apart.
Lake County publishes no online jail roster or same-day booking list. To confirm a new arrest, use the Lake County 24 Hour Arrests route, which starts with Corrections rather than an invented feed. Sheriff routing is (231) 745-2712. Non-emergency dispatch is (231) 745-2711.
Verify Lake County Participation
Official Michigan VINE material describes a statewide program. It makes no statement about Lake County participation. Check the live selector every time. If Lake County appears, follow the interface and note the reporting agency. If it does not, resist the urge. Skip Lake County results in Florida, Indiana, or Ohio.
The county-name trap bites hardest on mobile searches and app stores. One generic Lake County sheriff app traces to Florida, not Michigan. No official Lake County, Michigan jail app or app-based roster exists. Start with VINELink and the state page. Then turn to Lake County Corrections when the interface runs dry. The official Michigan VINE page documents the program and its coverage cautions.
The state page backs the service description while claiming no county connection for Lake County.
Custody Outside Lake County
Custody can shift from local hands to another authority, and every system has its own search boundary. MDOC OTIS lists Michigan prisoners, parolees, probationers, and some discharged records. It excludes ordinary county-jail-only custody outright. It also skips people arrested but not yet sentenced to state custody. So OTIS cannot replace a Lake County booking check.
Federal Bureau of Prisons and ICE custody run on separate locators. VINELink replaces neither, and the U.S. Marshals publish no public locator. Identify the likely custodian first. A transfer alert may hint at movement, but only the receiving authority's official source confirms the new status.
| Custody question | Correct route |
|---|---|
| Lake County jail now | Corrections telephone and VINELink if participating |
| Michigan state custody or supervision | MDOC OTIS |
| Federal sentence | BOP inmate locator |
| Immigration detention | ICE detainee locator |
Respond to a Custody Alert
An alert from VINELink is a prompt, not an answer. Check the event type, the agency, and the time stamp before acting. A transfer between jails means something different from a release. A court-status notice may say nothing about where the person is physically held. When safety is at stake, follow the safety plan tied to your registration. Add any official instructions you were given.
VINE is not an emergency line. Call 911 if danger is immediate. For other public-safety matters, Lake County Central Dispatch at (231) 745-2711 can route your call. Dispatch keeps no records, though. Requests for past Lake County arrest files still belong with the county FOIA coordinator.
Note: Keep registration confirmations current; outdated telephone or email details can prevent a useful alert from reaching the intended recipient.
